Christmas Program

Before the Christmas Program the Youth group provided a Potato Bar for those coming to the program. A thank you to all those who helped with the planning, serving, and the clean-up. about 100 potatoes were served.

We were blessed with a nice evening for our program. A total of 40 children participated–”A Musical Manger Mystery” (26 children) and the older children presented “The Surprising Christmas Pageant” (14 children).

It was great to see the church full of family and friends. The parents brought cookies and finger food for the fellowship time following the program. Linda Royle, Phyllis Janitcheck and Barb Olson were in charge of the fellowship time. They estimated 160 people went through the line.

Christmas Caroling

On December 21st, the temperature was in the low 30′s as the Carolers left the Methodist Church on their mission. They boarded their sleigh (Flat bed trailer) with blankets, gloves, & hats sitting on bales of hay.

Corey Riessland and his Co-pilots “Ashley and John Phillips” drove the carolers through the streets of Pleasanton without any problems. The carolers sang at 20 different homes. The kids were great helpers by ringing the doorbells and singing.

The group that stayed at the church had supper ready which included five crockpots of soup and many trays of sandwiches and desserts. A total of 40 people participated to make this a great success.

A special thanks to Dick and Connie Riessland, Corey and Cara Riessland for providing a perfect “Sleigh” for the carolers.

December Community Youth Meeting

Over twenty youth attended the December 4 youth meeting at the Tri-City Arena. The youth and some adults enjoyed the afternoon skating and finished the afternoon with pizza and drinks in their private, party room.

All levels of skating experience were observed–beginners to very accomplished skaters. Thankfully no one had a bad spill.

A big thank you to the youth for keeping the Youth Group growing. Each month new members attend the activities planned for the first Sunday of each month. The next activity will be January 8.

Also a big thank you to Diane Hand, Pastor Greg, and Shayne Zwiener for helping sponsor the youth during the January skating. Bless the parents for their continued support.

On a recent Wednesday evening, several members met at Carol and Billy Phillips’ home to make sauerkraut for the Fall Bazaar. For some it was a new experience but thankfully the old pros were there to guide the newbies.

Those helping included: Carol and Billy Phillips, Corene Phillips, Scott Phillips, Linda Royle, Phyllis Janitscheck, Phil and Corliss Dixon, and the master–Bob Nicklasson.
Thank you Billy and Carol for your hospitality and especially the fabulous lunch.

Kids For Christ
We are happy to announce that we have 46 children attending the Wednesday after school program, Kids For Christ, at the United Methodist Church. The session begins with lunch, a lesson video, music, and a hands-on lesson with the children grouped according to grades.

Pat Vest is our new Pre-school teacher. Bonnie Burton has the Kindergarten group. Sandy Nicklasson teaches the First and Second Grade. Third and Fourth Grade are instructed by Corliss Dixon. Pastor Greg Reed, a former Junior High teacher, will be working with the Fifth and 6th Graders. Carol Phillips is the musical director. Sharon Martin, Corene Phillips, Elizabeth Rowe, and Shelena Zwiener serve as helpers.

Recycling

Caretakers of Gods World

The Third and Fourth grade Kids for Christ have started a small recycling project. They have placed BLUE recycling containers on the kitchen counter. Please recycle your bulletin, plastics, cans, glass, that are used in the church. Help the Kids make a difference! Help them be good caretakers of God’s World!

The FBLA has recycling trailers located at the school for your recycling needs. Volunteers take them to the Kearney Recycling Center. You may also drop your items at the containers located in the Herberger parking lot–south entrance.

Items Kearney will recycle–newspaper, cardboard, magazines, books (remove hard covers, or metal bindings) shredded paper, cans, glass, plastic–no styrofoam–they do not recycle styrofoam.

Aluminum cans can be left at the church or placed in the fenced area behind the school shop for resale.

Farewell

Farewell Pastor Jerry and Phyllis

Lee Nell helps members share memories with Pastor Jerry and Phyllis.

Members of the Havens Chapel and Pleasanton United Methodist Churches bid farewell but not good-bye to Pastor Jerry as he finished his six-month ministry to the two churches.

He can now enjoy his retirement and further his commitment to serve God and the United Methodist Ministry.

Following a pot-luck lunch, members shared memories of their time with Pastor Jerry and Phyllis

Dear God

Our hearts are full of thanksgiving for the privilege of knowing and having Pastor Jerry as our minister. His dedication and love for the ministry was a joy as he guided us to further our faith and service to you. Please continue to guide us and Pastor Jerry in our faith journey.

For we have derived much joy and comfort from your love my brother.

Ladies Brunch

All Ladies in the area are invited to attend the Pleasanton United Methodist Women’s annual “Ladies Brunch,” Saturday, July 16 at 9:30.

Heidi Epley will share her experiences as a volunteer for “Operation Christmas Child.” Heidi delivered Christmas shoeboxes to Honduras–attend and hear her inspiration story and share in our fellowship.

Merrill and Bobbi Berkheimer joined by profession of their faith in Christ; Bill Wilson joined by transfer from the Hazard United Methodist Church; and Janet Wilson became an associate member from the Geneva United Methodist Church.
